Offering the best value and quality solution for MDL, we delivered a tender package that would bring our expertise, quality and delivery of our Breakwater pontoons within an overall marina replacement, managed and delivered by Walcon
Working closely with the Walcon piling team, we enabled the reconfiguration of existing piles to optimise the strength and open up a longer berthing face and space to attract high value customers to this iconic marina.
The layout included the longest breakwater we had ever made within a solution that would ensure a wide working circulation area to provide and support the large superyachts berthing there and access to a wide area of the marina itself.
MDL had a clear vision for the new marina that included an eye-catching charcoal grey overall look – this required the application of a specialist two-part deck coating that provides a tough non-slip treatment that matched the rest of the marina’s decking, which has proved a big hit with their berth holders.
The team overcame a number of challenges. Firstly, the project had to be delivered during the high season at Ocean Village Marina – this included working around their operations and a number of high-profile events. In addition, delivery of these large, heavy units required road closures in and around the port area, and we worked with the MDL team in offloading the units at their Saxon Wharf Marina.
These Breakwater units will serve a dual purpose which will both attenuate waves to an acceptable level so that sheltered berthing can be provided within the main marina, while also providing berthing for larger vessels utilising these units.
