Peterhead Port Authority commissioned a Heavy Duty Pontoon for CTVs to provide year-round easy berthing for the vessel operators, as well as safe access for the operatives being transported to the wind farms.

Where | Peterhead Harbour, East Coast of Scotland |
We installed our popular Heavy Duty Pontoon System for CTV’s, encompassing 70 metre and 20 metre-long access bridges, as well as a metre-long freeboard, commercial-rated GRP decking, heavy duty 200mm rubber D-fender and a lower timber fender to allow smaller vessels to berth alongside, in addition to electrical, water and lighting services.
The purpose of the Heavy Duty Pontoon System is to provide safe berthing facilities for crew transfer vessels (CTV’s) and working vessels during the commissioning and ongoing maintenance phases for nearby Windfarms.
The pontoons were installed in a busy fishing harbour and daily contact with the port was necessary to ensure the location was free of vessels.
Sub-contractors were used for the installation of the Heavy Duty Pontoon System. The pontoon services also had to be managed and organised to fully comply with Peterhead Port Authority’s Health, Safety and Quality procedures. Local contractors were also engaged to help with additional works required during the project.
The overall benefits to the new system include: safe access to vessels from land, easy berthing (pontoon freeboard set to 1m to match vessel freeboard), comfortable safe berthing thanks to large 200mm rubber D-fender, year-round usability in all weather conditions, safe working at night and day thanks to high level lighting and berthing for up to 140-tonne displacement vessels.
I’m incredibly pleased with the installation of the Heavy-Duty Pontoon System by Inland and Coastal, which has significantly enhanced the berthing facilities available here at Peterhead Port,” says Ian Downie at Peterhead Port Authority. “The new system is purpose-built for safe boarding of crew transfer and working vessels, supporting the demanding operational needs of the many wind farm projects located off Peterhead. With the 20-metre long access bridge, reinforced GRP decking and robust fendering, the 76.3 metre long pontoon ensures both safe and easy access for up to two vessels. Inland and Coastal’s commitment to safety and attention to detail, along with seamless coordination with our team and local contractors, allowed for efficient completion within our busy harbour environment.
