Belfast Rowing Club

Northern Ireland

Project Summary

In 2009, we upgraded the water access facilities at Belfast Rowing Club from steep slippery steps to a bespoke rowing pontoon.

We also helped the club to secure funding from the Lottery Sports Fund for our sport specific surface. As the structure is, in theory, not permanently fixed it was able to submit a successful equipment-based bid.

Easy to clean and maintain, the floating pontoon has a low freeboard and high residual buoyancy, offering perfect height for dry exit/entry.

The rowing pontoon also has broad access ramps and the anti-slip mini mesh decking gives great grip underfoot, making launching and recovering boats much easier.

Over a decade since installation, the Club is delighted with our low freeboard solution.

“I was impressed by the speed, efficiency and enthusiasm shown by the Inland and Coastal team, right through the project and installation on site. Our new facilities have extended the season and enabled access in a wider range of weather and water conditions. The investment has transformed participation and enjoyment of the sport at the club."
